Last Updated on 1 month by Amiya Nandy

Deva, an action thriller by Shahid Kapoor set to shake the Indian box office, is pregnant with expectations, and the film is doing steadily well.

The film picked ₹6.42 crores during Day 2 and is sitting at about ₹4.78 crores at Day 3, bringing its total to ₹16 crores in 3 days.

Despite Day 3 taking a hit, being the first Sunday, the film’s overall performance remains solid across India.

Day 3 Box Office Report

The film started its lifecycle with about ₹5.5 crores and is currently hovering at ₹4.78 crore on Day 3.

This brings the total to ₹16.7 crores in India.

However, the final report for Day 3 showed off about a 25.55% dip.

From Day 1 to Day 2, we can see massive growth of about 16.73%, which means during Day 2, the film had a reported earning of ₹6.42 crores.

Mixed Response but Strong Word of Mouth

According to public records, the film is directed by Rosshan Andrrews and brings in a double-edged sword with first-hand praise for Shyam.

It currently has mixed reviews, but:

  • The actor has surely performed well
  • The action sequences grip you with intensity

While taking a glance at core Bollywood, it puts perspective to many zealous fans and tries to understand the major cop action thrillers like Singham and Satyameva Jayate.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh emphasized the other side regarding the first weekend of the film, saying,

“Shahid Kapoor stepping into an action thriller has kept the audiences coming to the theatres. The film had excellent growth on Day 2 but the drop on Sunday was an outlier. The true challenge starts on Monday.”

What’s in Store for Deva Now?

Deva’s collection needs to be stable for the next few days in order to sustain the initial momentum it created in theaters.

With Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s Fighter still dominating multiplex chains, Deva has a long way to go.

Film distributor Girish Johar is optimistic and believes that Deva would enjoy some redemption in the second week as long as it maintains its target audience.

“A film like Deva is entirely dependent on the urban multiplex audience and the strong followers of Shahid Kapoor. If it performs well during the week, it will have a chance to go above the ₹50 crore mark,” he said.

Will Deva Maintain Its Box Office Hold?

The next few days will be defining for Deva.

If Monday’s collection post the weekend indicates strongly, the movie might not take a severe performance dip after the weekend is over.

Currently, Deva sits at ₹16.7 crore and should surpass ₹20 crore by midweek.
