14. Artificial Sweeteners – Sugar-Free, but Not Liver-Free

Giving up sugar is a good idea. No calories. No crashes. Just the pleasure of sweetness with no remorse. However, your liver doesn’t think this way.
Sweeteners such as aspartame or sucralose might not affect blood sugar levels but they do reach the liver. Therefore, they have to be metabolized – a process during which a liver copes with oxidative stress.
Furthermore, the regular consumption of these sweeteners may result in the body sending some signals to itself that are somewhat unclear. You will then have the taste of sugar without the energy it brings and that will bring about you the cravings, changing metabolism and fat storage.
You might think that by avoiding sugar, you are doing the right thing. But actually, by consuming “diet” snacks or drinks, you might be introducing new problems.
Your liver doesn’t keep track of calories. It is busy fighting for cleanliness — and sweeteners make this fight harder.
